Romantic relationships are hard. They're exhausting and complicated. I'm not interested in that kind of thing. What I have with Atsushi is... it's easy. We understand each other because we can read each other well. We're direct with each other so we don't have many misunderstandings.
Having a deep friendship like that with Atsushi is the best thing I could ever have. I don't need, or want a girlfriend. At least not now. And so I don't want to take anything "further" because I don't want to involve myself in complicated matters like love.
I think that's because that kind of friendship is a rarity. It's one a lot of people don't ever get to experience, but if you do it's limited to only one or two people.

The only thing that would be upsetting is that he'd be spending less time with me. But what matters to me is what Atsushi wants, so if he were fine with it, I'd be fine with it, too.
If Atsushi wants to date you, or anyone else, he doesn't need my permission.
But I don't think Atsushi is interested in dating. And I don't mean that in the "I'm jealous so don't date him" way. I just think he's incredibly oblivious to flirting, and to romance in general, despite his love of romance novels.
