[ En shifts the bouquet briefly to the crook of his arm so he can take the present with both hands, figuring he ought to show some Japanese manners. Even though he was 19 now, it was still incredibly difficult not to shake the box to see what kind of noise it made. ]
Ah, see, now you definitely have to tell me when your birthday is so I can return the favor. And I'd also like to ask for your help in returning the favor to Atsushi in three months, if you're interested.
[ And then, calling out to Atsushi: ]
Your timing in making that comment is a little too late! I'll have green tea, but Weiss wants hot cocoa. Ahh, actually -- Atsushi -- do we have a vase? I need one.
[ En turns and heads back to the couch, scanning the room for a good place to put the flowers. Probably the coffee table. While he's not at all knowledgeable in room decor, he figures the coffee table would be a nice place to display such pretty flowers since they'd be visible from pretty much all angles. ]
Mm... I think I have something that could work wonders as a vase!
[ He calls back to En as he searches around the kitchen. Don't mind him making a bit of sound from the kitchen as he opens and shuts different cupboard doors. ]
You'll have to remind me. [ about atsushi's birthday, she means. she doesn't give him the date of her own birthday, though. he'll just have to ask again another time! :)
with that, she enters and takes off her shoes. it makes her a lot smaller than she usually is, but eh. it seems to be a customary thing in this house! ]
[ The way Atsushi says that gives En the feeling that he's just going to bring out an actual vase, but he figures Atsushi wouldn't word it that way if he were. When he glances at Weiss, he takes a long, hard look at her as if there is something different about her!!! And in a teasing voice, he offers: ]
Ah, you've lost a few centimeters.
[ Give or take. This, coming from a guy who's 183cm... she was already tiny! He notes in the back of his mind that Weiss is probably at a very good height to kick in the most painful way possible, but doesn't dare say it out loud. ]
[ Atsushi hums softly to himself as he finishes getting things ready. On a big plate he comes out into the living room with a cup of cocoa for Weiss with a special mug for Weiss that was blue and had snow flakes on it. En's tea is delivered in a darker blue mug with a water droplet theme. And then also on the plate there was a larger glass filled with water for the flowers and a big plate of manju. Besides Seafood curry, it was one of en's favorite foods, so of course Atsushi had to make them for his birthday. ]
[ Oh my god En??? Please don't kick her?!??! She shoots En the trademark Weiss glare, as if to say it's not funny, before looking back to greet Atsushi. ]
[ HE WOULD NEVER! He meant it the other way around!! And besides, with or without heels it would hurt. And, even though Weiss might be glaring at him, En's expression is pretty laid back and cheerful as if he's completely unfazed. ]
I think the plan right now is to hang out with you if that's all right.
[ ...Atsushi just kind of woke him up and didn't tell him anything, just showered him with food and made efforts to spoil him. So if they do have plans, he has absolutely no idea. Regardless! He takes his usual spot at the end the couch, setting the glass with water dead center on the coffee table so he can place the flowers in it. Birthday flowers specifically meant for him are a lot nicer than fancy roses that never wilt and were meant to be given to "anyone." ]
Have you ever had these before, Weiss?
[ He takes a manju in his hand and nods his head toward it, before popping it into his mouth. ]
They're mildly sweet, so they don't have an overpowering taste or anything. And these are homemade by Atsushi, so of course they're naturally delicious.
[ When all the cups and little things were off the plate Atsushi picks it up again and starts to head back to the kitchen so he could get his own mug of tea. En's comment about his manju made him blush a little though. ]
I-it's not all that good just because I made it...a-as for plans I didn't really think of anything besides this.
[ he hurried back to the kitchen in case Weiss wanted to further the blush on his face. His friends are bullies! ]
[ Weiss takes a seat and looks at the manju, carefully observing it. She's never seen something like that before, but the more Asian-like villages and towns in Remnant likely have something similar to it. Not that Weiss would know. She's never been to those villages before. ]
No. What are they made from?
[ She watches En as he eats it, then takes a piece of her own. ]
I'm sure it's good. I don't have any doubts there. I just want to make sure that this isn't too fatty.
[ Asking En about food is a terrible decision, really. He may only eat bread when he's left to his own devices, but knows too much about the Philosophy of Food ??? for his own good. ]
Most manju are made from flour, rice powder and red bean paste. Depending on the type of person and the mood they're in, it's the filling that might differ detween manju. Ah, but you know, Atsushi and I come from a hot spring town, and so manju is basically available everywhere. Even though they're my go-to food, I'd taken them for granted until I ended up here.....
[ Upon realizing he's been talking a while, he trails off faintly. ]
Ahh -- but that being said, there's not really any sugar in it. Even if there were, I don't think you need to worry too much about the types of food you eat. I think you're the type to live a pretty active lifestyle anyway, but a food like this isn't going to ruin your physique or give you a sugar rush.
[ En takes another manju and glances at the direction of the kitchen. ]
Atsushi, stop hiding. Take your compliments to the face -- and eat more, because your waist is still thin!!
[ When En brought the attention back to him in the kitchen he actually manages to drop the plate with a loud clang. Luckily it didn't actually break, it was just loud. Just like Atsushi's voice as it cracks a little. ]
I-I eat just fine, En-chan!
[ he's just going to. Crouch down over here in the kitchen until his face stops being red. Although the fact that there was a very bright pink glow coming from the kitchen made it a little obvious he was embarrassed. ]
[ In the middle of En's rambling, she takes a small bite of the manju and makes a face. It's not a terrible expression - she's trying to study the different flavours in her mouth. It definitely isn't something she's tried before, and she's tried all sorts of food from various places already.
Once she's swallowed, she gives her nod of approval and calls out to Atsushi. ]
It's delicious. And you shouldn't hide - there's nothing to be embarrassed about.
[ There something pleasing about a friend appreciating his favorite food, enough that he has bubbles in the shape of tiny water crowns sparkling overhead briefly. To En, Weiss is very hard to read, and he's not really sure why she even bothers to talk to him or hang out with him. But, even though he suspects it's out of consideration for Atsushi, he's still glad for her friendship. ]
Ah, but really, are you okay in there? It'd be a pain if you cut your finger on a glass or something.
[ Although what he says is kind of mean-spirited, his expression betrays him as he's still giving a concerned look toward the kitchen. ]
[ She'll just continue eating the manju, then! It's good, but the more she eats, the more she realises it's more of an acquired taste because of the texture of the red beans and all.
She has no idea what Atsushi is thinking right now, but she feels like this is normally how he is, anyway. He gets so easily flustered. ]
I feel like he's about to set the kitchen on fire. And while that's bad by itself, it's probably not something someone who's aligned to wind should do.
[ But he appears to be only mildly concerned at the idea that Atsushi's embarrassment might actually start a kitchen fire because he's already eating his third manju. ]
I wonder if one of us should go in there and check.
[ Atsushi finally stood up in the kitchen and made his way out with his mug of tea, the mug was green with little clovers matching the ones dancing above his head. ]
I can hear you, you know.
[ He was pouting a little as he made his way to the couch. ]
[ She looks at En when Atsushi joins them, laughing a little. ]
That was mean.
[ NOT THAT SHE'S ONE TO TALK. She's mean on her own! Once Atsushi is seated, though, she takes herf hot cocoa and waves it slightly as if she's pointing to him with the mug. ]
[ He settles in in between Weiss and En. It was almost like his little spot now for some reason. ]
Ah, the mug. Mm, I know sometimes you feel like you might bother us, so I bought a mug for you, so you have a little piece that makes this your home too any time you come over.
[ It was mean, but a funny kind of mean! Weiss doesn't say it, though. She says nothing about how having her own mug here is a sweet gesture, too. Instead, she focuses on something more serious.
Sorry to dampen your birthday, En. ]
Did you guys act weird last week because of Elios? I almost bought the house I live in just because I wanted this world to be my home.
